Exit Counseling for Graduating Students
The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) offers congratulations to University students graduating at the end of this semester! The following information is important for graduating students to understand regarding student loan exit counseling.
Who Must Complete Exit Counseling?
Graduating students who have received federal student loans are required by federal regulations to complete Exit Counseling. OSFA will notify graduating students of this responsibility via email in November; however, you may complete Exit Counseling before this notification.
How to Complete Exit Counseling
The U.S. Department of Education provides online counseling at studentaid.gov (opens in a new tab) . To log in, you will need your FSA ID ( information on creating an FSA ID (PDF) (opens in a new tab) ). Once logged in, choose “Log in to Start” under “Complete Exit Counseling.”
At the end of the session, you will be asked to provide the name, address, email address, and telephone number for your nearest relative, two references who live in the United States, and your current or expected employer (if known).

Ensure UGA Is Notified of Your Completion
For the University of Georgia OSFA to be notified that you completed online exit counseling, make sure University of Georgia is listed as your current school of attendance. You will be asked this after you complete and pass the Exit Counseling quiz.
Otherwise, you will need to provide OSFA with a copy of the Borrower’s Information and the Rights and Responsibilities Summary Checklist you are prompted to print during the online exit counseling session.
