Limited Need-Based Funds Consideration
Important Dates for Limited Need-Based Funds Consideration
Federal Campus-Based funds and OSFA need-based scholarships have limited funding.
Every Award Year, the initial group of students who receive priority eligibility consideration for these limited funds will be comprised of the students who:
- are accepted for admission or already admitted to a UGA eligible degree program, and
- submitted the new Award Year’s properly completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the Central Processing System (CPS),* and
- listed the UGA Federal School Code 001598 on their FAFSA as one of the colleges of choice, and
- completed all additional eligibility requirements for that Award Year which were reflected in Athena under “Financial Aid Eligibility”.
It is important to note that all of the limited funds can be exhausted even before all the otherwise eligible students in the initial priority consideration group are awarded!
In the event any funds are still available after we have considered and awarded all the eligible students in the initial priority consideration group, we will then award any remaining funds to eligible students who meet the above criteria starting with those FAFSAs processed by the CPS beginning December 16, until the funds are exhausted.
*After careful review and consideration of the challenges presented by the 2024-25 FAFSA, the University of Georgia has suspended its priority consideration deadline for need based funds for the 2024-25 academic year. Limited need-based funds will be awarded as FAFSAs are received until all available funds have been exhausted.
Non-Limited Need-Based Funds Consideration
Federal Pell Grant and Federal Direct Loans are not limited federal funds. Students can apply and be awarded any time during the Award Year as long as they still meet all eligibility criteria once they have satisfied all requests for any additional documentation.
See Retroactive Federal Student Aid for additional information.
