For Aid to be Available to Pay Toward University Charges

Students can apply any time during the Award Year (as long as they still meet all eligibility criteria); however, in order for financial aid to pay toward your semester’s student account charges, you must complete the financial aid process including Verification (if selected), by the following dates:

Fall 2023

July 1, 2023

Spring 2024

November 1, 2023

Summer 2024

April 1, 2024

Students who fail to complete the process by these dates should be prepared to initially pay all the charges on their student account, including tuition and fees, housing, food services, any late charges, etc. Once students have completed the financial aid process, they will be awarded the financial aid for which they qualify even if classes have already begun.

Limited Need-Based Funds Consideration

Important Dates for Limited Need-Based Funds Consideration

Federal Campus-Based funds and OSFA need-based scholarships have limited funding.

Every Award Year, the initial group of students who receive priority eligibility consideration for these limited funds will be comprised of the students who:

  • are accepted for admission or already admitted to a UGA eligible degree program, and
  • submitted the new Award Year’s properly completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the Central Processing System (CPS), and the CPS processed their FAFSA no later than December 15, and
  • listed the UGA Federal School Code 001598 on their FAFSA as one of the colleges of choice, and
  • completed all additional eligibility requirements for that Award Year which were reflected in Athena under “Financial Aid Eligibility”.

It is important to note that all of the limited funds can be exhausted even before all the otherwise eligible students in the initial priority consideration group are awarded!

In the event any funds are still available after we have considered and awarded all the eligible students in the initial priority consideration group, we will then award any remaining funds to eligible students who meet the above criteria starting with those FAFSAs processed by the CPS beginning December 16, until the funds are exhausted.

*For the 2024-25 year the priority consideration date for limited need based funds will be February 1.

Non-Limited Need-Based Funds Consideration

Federal Pell Grant and Federal Direct Loans are not limited federal funds. Students can apply and be awarded any time during the Award Year as long as they still meet all eligibility criteria once they have satisfied all requests for any additional documentation.
