Methods to access Athena

There are two methods by which you can access Athena to determine if your Official Financial Aid Offer is available to view and if you need to take action to accept or decline a portion—or all—of your Official Financial Aid Offer:

• Method I. Using the Notification Email Sent to Your UGAMail Account
• Method II. Logging Directly Into Athena

Method I: Using the Notification Email Sent to Your UGAMail Account

A student will receive one of two types of notification emails from OSFA when their Official Financial Aid Offer has been created or revised.

1. The email sent to a student who has been awarded only pre‑accepted gift aid informs the student that they do not need to take any action on the Financial Aid Offer other than logging in to Athena and viewing the award. As a matter of policy, grants and scholarships (gift aid) are pre‑accepted on your behalf when added. A student receiving this email can view their Financial Aid Offer by:
   1. Clicking the link provided in the email.
   2. Signing in to Athena using their UGA MyID and password.
   3. Clicking the link for UGA’s Required Reading .
   4. After reading the information, clicking on Financial Aid Offer.
2. The email sent to a student who has been awarded some non‑gift aid requiring them to accept or decline the non‑gift aid (e.g., Federal Direct Loans or Federal Work‑Study). A student receiving this email can view their Financial Aid Offer by:
   1. Clicking the link provided in the email.
   2. Entering their UGA MyID and password, then clicking **Log in**.
   3. Clicking the link for UGA’s Required Reading .
   4. After reading the information, clicking on Financial Aid Offer.
   5. Reviewing the types of aid offered; a “Take Action” dropdown will appear to accept, decline, or modify the aid.
   6. Reviewing any Unsatisfied Requirements shown on the Home tab that may appear as a result of accepting aid.

Method II: Logging Directly Into Athena

You can log directly into Athena to access your Official Financial Aid Offer by going to Athena — opens in a new tab, and:

1. Click on Login to Athena — opens in a new tab.
2. Enter your UGA MyID and password, then click **Log in**.
3. Click on the Financial Aid tab.
4. If multiple Award Years appear, select the appropriate year from the dropdown in the top right.
5. Click on the link for UGA’s Required Reading .
6. After reading the provided information, click on Financial Aid Offer.
7. Review the types of aid offered; the “Take Action” dropdown allows you to accept, decline, or modify aid.
8. Review any Unsatisfied Requirements shown on the Home tab related to your aid decisions.
