Once you have accessed your Official Financial Aid Offer on Athena, you may see some unaccepted aid that requires your action. Unaccepted aid refers to any non‑gift aid on your Official Financial Aid Offer that includes a “Take Action” drop‑down box. You must indicate whether you want to accept or decline this unaccepted non‑gift aid. If no action is taken, unaccepted aid will eventually be canceled once the semester begins.

  • Any Federal Direct Loans (FDLs) you initially decline can be reinstated later if you remain eligible. However, any declined Federal Work‑Study awards cannot be reinstated later due to limited funding.
  • Unaccepted aid does not include scholarships (such as the HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarships ) or grants. These forms of aid are considered gift aid and are automatically accepted on your behalf when awarded. Athena’s system design prevents you from accidentally canceling any scholarships or grants.

See How to View or Accept / Decline Official Financial Aid Offers on Athena for step‑by‑step guidance on this process.
