When you accept the University of Georgia’s offer of student financial aid in Athena, you agree to fulfill the following responsibilities, including the Terms and Conditions set forth by federal and state regulations for student financial aid:
- The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) corresponds with students using UGAMail email. In accordance with University of Georgia policy, every student is required to have an e-mail address to which official University communications can be sent. Students should check their UGAMail account once per day to ensure they are receiving important communications from OSFA;
- Federal and/or state student financial aid can only be used to pay the cost of attending the University of Georgia;
- All outside scholarships and other resources such as stipends and fee waivers must be reported to the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA);
- Federal and/or state aid recipients must be maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress;
- Students with more than one major, or who are enrolled in Dual Degree programs or the Double Dawgs program, or who are pursuing a second degree should review this important information;
- UGA students may receive the student financial aid for which they are otherwise eligible when enrolled in a study abroad program;
- Students should review the information regarding the policies and procedures about the impact of enrollment, changes in enrollment, grades, grade changes, repeated coursework, etc. on student financial aid;
- Students must begin attendance in all of the courses for which they receive federal student aid and students who unofficially withdraw from the University of Georgia may be required to repay all or a portion of the student financial aid they received;
- Students may not be in default on a federal student loan or owe money back on a federal student grant or have made satisfactory arrangements to repay it. Students must notify OSFA if they are in default on a federal student loan;
- All student financial aid awards are contingent on the availability of funds and are awarded according to these Student Aid Policies;
- All financial aid, with the exception of Federal Work-Study, will be credited to the student’s UGA Student Account;
- All applicable fees and obligations will be subtracted from the student’s financial aid award, and if available award funds exceed applicable charges, the excess will be refunded to the student. Students must check against their Account Summary to ensure that all financial obligations have been fulfilled before spending any refunds received from Student Account Services. Refunds should only be used for educationally-related expenses;
- Students are obligated to read the Required Reading Guide to Student Financial Aid at the University of Georgia prior to receiving aid;
