Description
For Georgia, For Generations is a merit- and need-based institutional scholarship program designed to help reduce student loan debt while making a UGA education more accessible. The program supports the university’s commitment to attracting outstanding students from across Georgia by providing additional financial resources and incentives to enroll at UGA.
By encouraging talented students to make UGA—and Georgia—their home, For Georgia, For Generations helps prepare graduates to lead, serve, and invest in the communities that shaped them for generations to come.
Process
All admitted Georgia residents who submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are automatically considered for funding, and no additional application is required.
Because funding is limited, it is important to complete the FAFSA early. Priority consideration will be given to students who submit a FAFSA by December 15th of each year.
Amounts
Award amounts vary annually based on available funding and demonstrated financial need, with awards of up to $1,000 per year ($500 per academic term).
Eligibility
Initial awards are typically made to incoming first-year freshmen and are renewed as long as funding remains and renewal requirements are met. The scholarship is paid over 8 semesters (excluding summer) of undergraduate enrollment or until the completion of a bachelor’s degree, whichever occurs first.
Recipients must meet all of the following requirements:
- Be a resident of Georgia
- Be pursuing their first undergraduate bachelor’s degree
- Be eligible for need-based aid by submitting the FAFSA by the priority deadline of December 15 (if all students have been awarded and funding remains; additional awards will be made based on FAFSA completion date and available funding).
- Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
The For Georgia, For Generations scholarship award amount and eligibility criteria are subject to change each year based on institutional funding. Any changes apply only to future award years and are not retroactive.
If a student’s financial aid eligibility changes, the For Georgia, For Generations scholarship eligibility or award amount may also change. The Office of Student Financial Aid reviews these changes automatically, and students will be notified if the For Georgia, For Generations award is adjusted.
