Educational Institutions must establish a Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy for determining if an otherwise eligible student is making satisfactory academic progress in his or her educational program and may therefore; receive assistance under the Federal Student Aid (FSA) programs (Section 668.34, 34 CFR). In addition, all State of Georgia Financial Aid Program recipients must meet the SAP criteria established for FSA as do students receiving Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) awarded need-based aid.

SAP consists of two components of measurement: quantity and quality. OSFA evaluates the SAP status of each financial aid recipient at the end of every semester. Students who fail to maintain SAP are no longer eligible for FSA or State of Georgia financial aid with the exception of those students who qualify for one semester on Financial Aid Warning during which they can still receive any aid for which they are otherwise eligible.
