Terms and Conditions
In order to receive financial aid at the University of Georgia (UGA), all financial aid recipients must acknowledge the following Terms and Conditions before viewing their financial aid award in Athena:
- All financial aid awards are subject to change based on the student's academic status, academic program, state residency, enrollment status, Satisfactory Academic Progress, or changes made by the student or UGA;
- All student financial aid awards are contingent on the availability of funds and are awarded according to these Student Aid Policies;
- All financial aid, with the exception of Federal Work-Study, will be credited to the student's UGA Student Account;
- All applicable fees and obligations will be subtracted from the student's financial aid award, and if available award funds exceed applicable charges, the excess will be refunded to the student. Students must check against their Account Summary to ensure that all financial obligations have been fulfilled before spending any refunds received from Student Account Services. Refunds should only be used for educationally-related expenses.
In addition, federal financial aid regulations require UGA to obtain the student's consent each year before we can use electronic processing and notification of Awards.
Each Award Year, you will be provided the opportunity to accept your financial aid award Terms and Conditions after logging into Athena and clicking on the Financial Aid tab. If you click on the Accept button, the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) will use your UGA email and the Athena student portal as the primary means of communication with you. This is by far the fastest and easiest method of accepting and processing financial aid awards.
Students who do not wish to use electronic processing will not be able to accept their Financial Aid Awards online and must notify our office in writing of their desire to apply for financial aid.
