Get a Tax Transcript Online or By Mail

The IRS has provided useful tips for obtaining a copy of your Tax Transcript. Visit their web site for more information.

To request a tax transcript visit www.irs.gov, and click on the “Get Your Tax Record” link.

You may then either download a PDF version of your tax transcript via the Get Transcript Online feature or have a copy of your tax transcript mailed to you using the Get Transcript by Mail feature.

To use the Get Transcript Online Feature you will need the following items:

  • Your Social Security Number (SSN)
  • Date of Birth (DOB)
  • Filing Status
  • Mailing Address from Latest Tax Return
  • Access to your e-mail account
  • A personal account number from a credit card, mortgage, home equity loan / line of credit or a car loan.  (Per irs.gov: You will only need to provide the loan account number or a few digits from a credit card number. The IRS will only use this information to verify your identity. You will not be charged any money and are not sharing any account balances or other financial information with the IRS. A soft inquiry will show up on your credit report to let you know that the IRS accessed your credit report information. This will not increase or decrease your credit score and lenders will not be able to see this. If you have placed a credit security freeze with Equifax, you must contact Equifax to have the freeze temporarily removed before continuing. Once registration is complete, you may contact Equifax to resume the freeze.)
  • A mobile phone with your name on the account.

Use of the Get Transcript Online feature will grant an individual immediate access to a PDF version of his or her IRS Tax Transcript. The PDF version can then be printed and mailed, faxed or dropped off at the UGA Office of Student Financial Aid. Be sure to include the student’s full name and UGA ID number on all documents submitted.

To use the Get Transcript by Mail feature you will need the following items:

Individuals who use the Get Transcript by Mail feature will be mailed a copy of his or her tax transcript within 5 to 10 calendar days. Once received, the transcript can then be mailed, faxed or dropped off at the UGA Office of Student Financial Aid.
