2011-12 Verification Process
When we select a student’s 2011-12 FAFSA for Verification, we will notify the student and parents (when applicable) by e-mail. Generally the parents of a dependent student (the students required to provide parental information on the FAFSA) will be instructed to provide us documentation verifying the following 2010 federal income tax return information which they reported on the student’s FAFSA :
- Adjusted Gross Income
- Federal taxes paid
- Untaxed income
In addition, the student (or parents when requested) will need to verify the reported household size and the number of family members in college on at least a half-time basis.
2011-12 Verification Documentation
To verify the 2010 federal income tax return information entered on the FAFSA, parents (when applicable) or the student will be instructed to provide us:
- either a signed copy of the student or parents’ (when requested) 2010 federal income tax return, or an IRS Tax Return Transcript of the 2010 tax year information, and
- copies of all the student’s or parents’ (when applicable) W2s
Note that the U. S. Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) granting of an extension to file a 2010 federal tax return does not eliminate the requirement to provide us the requested tax return documentation!
To verify household size and the number in college you need to complete and sign the Verification Worksheet we will provide and return it to us.
The Verification Process cannot be completed and the student’s eligibility for federal financial aid determined until all requested documentation has been received by the UGA Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA).
