America Reads Program

America Reads - In an effort to increase the reading proficiency among America's youth, the Clinton Administration in 1996 launched the America Reads Challenge with one major objective: to have all children reading well and independently by the end of the third grade. Since the beginning of the program in 2000, the America Reads Program at the University of Georgia has been a highly successful partnership between the Office of Student Financial Aid's Federal Work-Study program and the Clarke County School District. Our America Reads site contains information regarding the program goals, how to apply, and other information regarding this educational and community-minded program.

Federal Work-Study Program

Federal Work-Study Program - The Federal Work-Study Program (FWS) is a need-based financial aid program in which students work on-campus while being enrolled at the University. Our mission in the FWS is to place students in positions on campus which match their interests and skills. Servicing over 80 departments and employing over 300 students, we are striving for continued growth in both size and quality in the upcoming academic year. The FWS page includes information for students interested in participating in the program and for currently active FWS student-employees.

PEER

Peer Financial Couseling - The peer financial counseling program is set up on the premise that the best way to reach college students is by having fellow students provide valuable information and experiences that we can relate to and apply in our daily lives. With this aim in mind a series of four lessons has been developed that explore the critical issues of budgeting, savings, investing, credit use and student loans. We provide Web resources that can be accessed through the internet, as well as student speakers to present lessons to classes, clubs, residence halls and other student organizations.

SIFE - The UGA SIFE team was reestablished in January 2004. UGA SIFE is a joint venture between The Office of Student Financial Aid (Division of Student Affairs), Terry College of Business, and Housing and Consumer Economics. The UGA SIFE team has members from many different majors and academic disciplines. SIFE believes that by working together as teams to teach the principles of free enterprise, SIFE students are improving the quality of life and standard of living for millions of people - literally changing the world. SIFE's program includes market economics, entrepreneurship, personal and financial success skills and business ethics. Joining the SIFE team provides the opportunity to support these outstanding programs and the added value of quality networking with the prominent business leaders, students and educators who are active in the SIFE network.
