Finding an FWS job and Getting Hired
Step 1: Accept Your FWS Award
You can accept the FWS amount reflected on your official Financial Aid Award or a smaller amount not less than $1500 for the year. FWS Awards are for both the Fall and Spring Semesters. You must accept both semesters or cancel both semesters. For instructions on accepting your Award please see: Awards on the Web.
You will not be able to view the FWS positions available until you have accepted your FWS award. A few days after you have accepted your FWS award, you will be added to the list of students who can create a profile and view the FWS job listings and you will receive an e-mail in your UGA e-mail account with instructions about accessing the FWS job listings.
IMPORTANT TO NOTE: Your FWS Award CANNOT be used toward your tuition, fees, housing, meal plan or any other charges that are due in August. The FWS amount on your award indicates the maximum amount you may earn through the FWS program this year.
To reduce the amount of FWS on your Award submit a Change in Aid Form. The minimum allowable FWS Award amount is $1500 for the Award Year ($750 per semester). You must work both Fall and Spring semesters and the semester amounts must be equal.
Cancelling your FWS award will NOT reduce your other aid or impact future awards.
Step 2: Create Your "My FWS Profile"
A few days after you have Accepted your FWS award, we will add you to the list of students who can create an FWS Profile and view the available FWS positions. We will send you an e-mail at your UGA e-mail address instructing you to go to: https://my.osfa.uga.edu and to log in using your UGA MyID. If we have added you to the FWS list, you will be able to see instructions regarding FWS once you have logged in. You must create a My FWS Profile before you can view the available jobs. Select the My FWS Profile tab and enter all information that you would like your prospective employer to see.
Step 3: Review the Available Jobs
FWS JOBS tab at the top of the page to see the list of available positions. Click on each job title to read more details. When you find a job that interests you, click on the "Send My Profile" button within the detailed listing.
- The department will contact you if you are selected for an interview.
- You may apply for several positions, but you may only accept one FWS position for the full year.
- If you have not heard back from a department in two to three weeks, it usually means that you need to apply for other positions.
Remember: It is YOUR responsibility to get hired in an FWS position. The Office of Student Financial Aid CANNOT GUARANTEE positions for all students who are awarded, as positions are limited by departmental demands. All FWS students must complete their job search by August 30, 2012.
Step 4: Know Your Responsibilities
You must maintain your eligibility for FWS as a condition of employment. Please review the Student Responsibilities section for more information about eligibility and other items you need to know as a FWS employee. FWS employment requires a work commitment for Fall AND Spring Semesters.
